MILESTONES:
You're clearly going through the Wonder Week (Developmental Leap) of Relationships, because you are very perceptive of distances, between you and I, for example. Or, the distance between your toys. Or, whether your toys are on top one another, or beside one another. You love "Sir Prance a Lot" and "Laura the Lamb" and all of their crinkly noises they make when you squeeze their feet. You also love the zippers on my sweater, or the tags on your toys. You love to stick out your tongue when you find something funny. You also love to play standing up and sitting down games. No teeth have emerged yet, but we think your bottom ones are coming soon. We are still working on rolling over. You can roll from tummy to back, but not back to tummy just yet. When we play on our mat, you don't roll around at all. That's okay...whenever you're ready to play with that experience, we know you will. We are working on sitting up on our own now. You can sit up with a small pillow propped behind you. You can make the sign language sign for MILK now! It is always so funny and cute when you do the MILK sign. Opening and closing your fists to show mommy and daddy you just are hungry. You also experienced your first two babysitters this month, first for Mommy's birthday night out with Daddy; and second, during the time Mommy and Daddy went out to the documentary premiere of Collective Evolution III. You slept the whole time!
SLEEP:
You're becoming an expert at self-soothing to sleep, Sophie, and mommy and daddy are so proud of you! After we've put you in your crib, you grab your Ellie the elephant and "Snuffy" and cuddle close with them. We can hear you talking to them, and wonder if you're telling them about your day adventures. Mommy's nipples are recovering from the days when they were sucked on for hours and hours! It seems like a while since I used to spend so much time rocking you back and forth and nursing you to sleep, but it's only been just over a couple of weeks. We are so proud that you are learning how to self-soothe, and truly believe we have taught you good sleeping habits, and the life skill of knowing when you are tired and putting yourself to sleep. I wish I had a video monitor to see you as you put yourself to sleep, and snuggle up with Ellie and Snuffy. You are the magical part of our days, a wonderful addition to our lives.
MEASUREMENTS:
I'm not exactly sure how much you weigh. We haven't been to your paediatrician since the end of November! And, at that point you weighed 13 lbs! Daddy thinks you weigh 16 lbs now! You are clearly outgrowing your car seat. We bought the Chicco Keyfit 22, which can suit you up to 22 lbs or 76 cm. Well, you're already at 76 cm for sure! You're growing so tall these days, you can't even lay down comfortably in your bathtub! You've been wearing 6-9 month onesies these days, but 12 month old pants, because of your cloth diaper bum! This just in: Our paediatrician, at our February appointment, says you are just over 14 lbs!
EATING:
Mommy's read up on baby-led weaning, and has given you bananas, avocados, and sweet potatoes! You love all three, but I think you love bananas the most. Too bad they constipate you; and for that reason, we can't have them every day! You're very good at putting the spoon or fork into your mouth. Now that we're mastering self-soothing to sleep, you have learned to snack less throughout the day, and instead, drink for longer periods before naps and bedtime. You're also awesome at drinking from a glass. You really don't like the bottle or pacifier, because of the rubber nipple, but prefer to be treated like an equal and drink your milk or water from a glass.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS:
It is so funny to observe how you don't like when we have to put your onesies on over your head. You clench your fists, hold your breath, and squeeze your eyes closed! Daddy says it's like you are preparing for a roller coaster ride! You're so silly, Soph.
Car rides are easier, now that you're learning to self-soothe to sleep. You are crying less during our car ride adventures, and I think you'll love your new Stage 2 car seat when we do buy it for you! We feel you're really changing this month. We can see your sweet, loving self emerge. We know you have graced our lives to help teach us, and lead us back to flowing with ease, to find peace and love in every moment. I'm so thankful to the Universe for giving me such a precious you!
