So, G and I have been fully loving our evenings in the new home. We put Sophia to bed UPSTAIRS, and then venture DOWNSTAIRS to make dinner, revel in conversation, and then watch some television. Hooray for stairs! I never thought I would appreciate them as much as I do now. Now that Sophia is sleeping UP THE STAIRS, she's rooms away from us, and that means we can bang pots and pans whilst making dinner in the kitchen! Heck! I feel so alive! I bang those pots like they've never been banged before.
On a side note, we had to sleep train the little bean (again), which turns out to be another great parenting decision on our part. It is taking a few moments of crying it out, but after that, she's all good and settled for the night. This down time allows me the opportunity to recuperate, you know, charge my batteries for the next adventure to be had the following day.
Lately, my readers, I've been feeling this strong urgency to dance. When I think about it, I haven't been out dancing with the crew (if I ever had one?!) in ages. Since....hmmmm....well, it was before I got pregnant, soooo...that would make it, October 2012. That's a bloody long time. If you know me, like, really know me, I need to dance. There came a time, well several times, we would venture out every weekend to dance. JUST to dance! Not like I'm an expert in dance or anything; heck, I've got two left feet that don't know what's right! But, moving my body is my expression of self. There's a power in movement. And a movement to a good mix, well that's something divine. Add a couple fine glasses of red in there, and the beats, the rhythms, the tones, the patterns, move me into a deeper trance. I'm young! I'm wild! I'm as free as a bee! I need to d a n c e.
Hubs and I had a nice glass of wine. Okay, it was several, but it's Friday night, so who cares? And well, hubs is sleeping on the couch, after what I know has been a long and tiring week for him at work. I'm dancing in the kitchen, to a sweet Songza playlist. (God bless the genius who invented this masterpiece). Well, no. I'm blogging. But I was dancing in the kitchen. ALONE! There's clearly something going on in the Universe, but with this energy, I can't stop dancing. Where my girls at? Who goes out dancing anymore? Surely someone out there wants to dance with meeeee! Remember those Uni days when we'd go out every weekend to either the same venue or club hopping, and just enjoy each scene for what it was, not caring who was there, or what music was played. We just went to dance, to be joyfully lost in movement. Because, we were young, wild, and damn free from a week of textbooks.
Maybe, it's the pushing of our physical bodies that is so addictive. Like a good workout at the gym. The best experience I ever got of that was when I pushed a baby out of my vag. It was an incredible superhuman feeling. I maximized my body's potential, and I praised the Universe simultaneously. Isn't it that physical release, that we all crave? When I think about it, my moments in silent meditation for the last year and a half, have been just that....silent. Silent surrender. I think I've been so caught up in sitting practice, that I've forgotten what it's like to twist and turn in creative movement, to connect with the spiritual through physical flow. Surrendering in creative movement and flow. Ha! Sounds sexual, right? Well...duh, it is! The beat, just like a good lover, demands you to surrender to it one hundred and one percent of the time, every time.
I want this movement to be my medicine and my meditation. Am I the only one who needs that beat to feel the release? I need to arrange some sort of "Natalie's going out dancing for the first time ever since she got knocked up" event. I don't know whether I should have this big dance party in our new space, or go out and dance somewhere? Any suggestions?!
